There are two preventive measures for deep vein thrombosis, which are mechanical prevention, using intermittent pneumatic compression device, and pharmaceutical prevention, using anti-coagulant. The decision upon which preventive measure to be used will be discussed among the medical team based on the patient’s risk factors and results of the initial assessment. All cases that undergo Gastric Sleeve Surgery will need at least 1 preventive measure for deep vein thrombosis. Prevention of deep vein thrombosis might be started prior to the surgery or after depending on the initial assessment. It’s important to know that the preventive measure could not lower the risk to zero.
