Eyelid surgery requires local anaesthesia. The surgeon makes precise markings to indicate where excess tissues will be removed in the upper and lower eyelids. For the upper eyelid, the surgeon will make an incision hidden within the natural fold of the upper eyelid. For the lower eyelid, the incision will be hidden just below the lashes. Alternatively, when excess fat is being removed, the incision can be placed inside the lower eyelid (transconjunctival incision). In most cases, there is virtually no detectable scar. Less tissue is removed in patients with dry eyes to avoid exposing more of the eye to the air, which can cause symptoms to worsen. Patient must be aware that there are several Do’s and Don’ts to follow about 2-8 weeks before the surgery date. Please ask your surgeon for specific instructions. eyelid surgery usually takes about 1 hour. After surgery, the patient will be sent to the recovery room for observation for 1-2 hours.
